Vinyl records made music more portable and more affordable for the public at large, seemingly colliding with the introduction of rock & roll music and more popular music for the younger audience. Not many young people had the means for a portable gramophone to play back their gramophone records - even if they had the interest for the music then available - yet vinyl records seemed to explode into popular youth culture and especially the 7-inch single made music more and more accessible.
The format for vinyl records (LPs, EPs and singles) has remained constant despite various marketing and technical developments over time and even after the introduction of digital recording media such as digital audio tape (DAT) and compact disc (CD) vinyl records never completely died - even if most commercial releases dried up. Even today there is a demand for vinyl records, particularly in various niches, and there is even a small renaissance for this format.
Musiclibrary.fi maintains an extensive collection of various vinyl records and in the future access will be provided to its vinyl records catalogue..
